print a photo

High street printing -

You will be pleased to know that getting prints from your digital camera is no more difficult than getting prints from a film camera. Simply remove your memory card from your camera and take it to your high street processor to get prints in the same way you would a roll of film. All without a computer.

Many high street printers have a kiosk, allowing you to crop and make changes to your photos before printing them, and if you need help first time round just ask an assistant. Alway ask for a copy of your photos on a CD or DVD. Apart from your prints this will be the only copy of your photos when you delete or reformat your camera's memory card to fill it with new photos.

Produce your own prints -
Please see the choose a photo printer section for more information on the different types of printers available. With many of these printers it is possible to just connect the camera to the printer and select the print option, it can be as easy as that. As an alternative some printers particularly those aimed at photographers will have a card slot for the memory card in your camera. There a more details on the choose a photo printer page.

Printing from a computer -
Your printer will have two leads, a mains power lead and a USB lead which plugs into both the computer and printer. Most digital cameras and most printers will supply software of some sort that will do the job, however if you have not already purchased some software to organise, modify and print your photos perhaps now is as good a time as any, so please take a look at the buy photo software under the buy a computer menu option.

Poor quality inkjet prints ?

then run through these really simple steps (as all printers are different you may need to refer to your printer manual)
  1. make sure you put photo paper in the correct way round as it has a special coating on the printable side
  2. make sure you select the correct paper type in printer prefences eg: glossy photo paper. Selecting the correct paper adjusts the amount of ink laid down on the paper.
  3. make sure the print cartridges all have ink and are in the correct slots
  4. the print head may need cleaning and aligning - the printer will have a maintenance routine, normally found in the operating system/control panel/printers/preferences folder on your computer
