Warning - New " showroom " features such as Face and Smile Detection, and any other process that proclaims to improve your photo, will generally slow down or even prevent you from taking a photo until the camera thinks the image meets the criteria you have selected.
Almost everyone knows someone who has a digital camera. So why not take a look at their camera, and the results they get from it as a starting point to making your decision.
Setting aside the generally huge and more expensive enthusiasts SLR ( single lens reflex ) cameras, do you want a pocket camera, which does exactly what it says on the tin or -
do you really want something a little larger ?
