buy ink cartridges
your replacement ink cartridges may cost more than the printer! whats the answer?
Buying replacement ink cartridges -
If you have a printer, particularly a photo printer you will go through print cartridges at a fair rate. Indeed if you are printing photos regularly, you may wish to consider alternative methods to replenish your ink and save a lot of money. The first alternative of course is to use high quality non-standard but compatible replacement ink cartridges from any number of internet based companies. The views on using non standard ink can vary greatly with some customers reporting they have used the cartridges for many years with no problems at all whilst others have reported blocked printer heads. So perhaps its wise to be a little more careful what you use with a more expensive printer or when used for more consistant results for photos. Look below for other suggestions on how to save money.
Refills - there are companies who sell kits to modify your current original empty ink cartridges so that they ca be refilled manually by you, or a friend who does not mind putting on rubber gloves. This involves drilling the empty cartridge and using a syringe to first pump in a flushing fluid before refilling the cartiridge with new ink from a bottle. This saves on the cost of the cartridge and because the the inks are supplied in larger quantity bottles thats cheaper to.
Continuous Ink Systems - what is this you may ask? Well take a look at the photo below and you will see a kit comprising of a rack of bottles, and a ribbon of tubes to carry the ink to replacement cartridges. The rack of bottles can be velcroed to the side of the printer, and with the lid of the printer open laying the ribbon tubes accross the top of the printer the cartridges should be in the correct order to drop in the correct order. Many professional photographers use these systems as they are generally reliable, give excellent results and offer great savings in regular use.
These systems are only available for certain models of injet printers so do some research, but models included at the time of writing are -
Epson C63/83/65/85 - Epson 770/750/720/710/700 - Epson 915/895/785/875 - Epson 830/820/810 - Epson 790/780 - Epson 900 - Epson1200 - Epson R200/300 - Epson 1290 - Epson 2100 - Epson1800 R265/ R365/ RX560 - Epson 4000 - Epson7600/9600 - and CANON InkFlow i9100 .
